The novel begins with a description of the terrible sorrows caused by poverty, and how people suffer during this war, which took many lives from them, and through the king of Death tells us the story of a Book Thief Girl, her adoptive father, an accordion player, and her little friend who protected her from bullies and whom the war will take away from her, when he and his family die under the rubble of bombing all over the city, only to wake up and find her city destroyed.
Death is the only witness to all these painful details that happen to the heroes of the novel, which, it is possible, have happened to many, many people in the horrors of these wars that have uselessly claimed millions of lives.
The heroine of the banner Lizelle writes her biography in her book (The Book Thief) and begins her story since moving to live with her adoptive family, her father is an accordion player, and her mother is a good-natured good-hearted, and that is the period she spent with them is four years, during which she witnesses many big situations and events, which makes us realize why Lizelle called herself (The Book Thief).
Liesel's little family was living quietly until the Jewish young man Max came to them, who was an undercover fugitive from the Nazi Will, and the contours of the story begin to become clear when Max becomes an undercover member of this small family, and what he combines with Liesel is reading books, and Liesel began her journey with reading from a book that never suits a little girl, she had picked it up from the person who was burying her little brother, under the title (The Guide to digging graves), and the journey of the little girl begins with stealing books and reading them, then she shares her boyfriend and reading companion Max.
